The magic of the church of St. John the Theologian – Kaneo


Not a single story in the city of light, fortified in the arms of the Samoil’s fortress can start or finish without one of its most important, strongest and spiritualy reachest preciousness, the church at the rock above the locality of Kaneo, dedicated to St. Jih the Theologian.
This church object is one of the biggest foundations of the religion in this ancient city, and the most precious diamant in its crown. Builted in the rocky landscape over the most beautiful part of the Ohrid Lake, somewhere at the end of the 13th and the beginning of the 14th centery, the temple is a witness of the most important historical and cultural epics in Ohrid.
In its interior, this marvelous and in many things unique church, hides its almosut authentical fresco painting, famous worldwide, and it is definitely one of the most photographed churches at the European soil in general.
The object has an rectangular basis with a written cros in the inner space, a tree sided apsida on the east side, and an octagonal dome lying on four regular columns. It is constructed of carved stone, with alternating horizontal and vertical parts of carved desalination and brick in the upper part. The apsida, the east part and the dome are decorated with ceramoplastic at the facades.
The Italian news agency Rai Storia, declared the church of St. John the Theologian as one of the 65 most beautiful churches on the European continent.
